Post-Conviction Relief for Immigrants Teleseminar CD

The topics of the two 90 minute audio sessions are as follows:

SESSION I: Developing a strategy, evaluating the case, and getting expert help in obtaining effective post-conviction relief for immigrants

SESSION II: Effective orders to vacate a conviction, grounds of legal invalidity, and obtaining an effective order vacating or reducing a sentence

Each CD is an audio recording from a 90 minute teleseminar, and has been edited by removing pauses and gaps to fit onto an 80 minute audio CD. The first hour of each session is a presentation by the faculty, and the remainder of the time is a question and answer period, during which the attendees interact directly with the presentors.

The CDs also include written materials on:

(1) How to determine what post-conviction relief is necessary to avoid immigration consequences.

(2) How to assess the chances of obtaining the necessary relief.

(3) What kind of relief will be effective in immigration cout to eliminate immigration consequences.

(4) May non-immigration related grounds to vacate guilty pleas.

(5) How to vacate or reduce sentences to avoid immigration consequences.

Distinguished Faculty

Norton Tooby has been seeknig post-conviction relief for nearly 35 years in state and federal courts. B.A., Harvard College, 1967. J.D., Stanford Law School, 1970. President, Stanford Law Review, 1969-70. Obtained reversal on appeal of all convictions of death-row inmate who was set at liberty on probation. Author, Post-Conviction Relief for Immigrants (2004), California Post-Conviction Relief for Immigrants (2002), California Expungement Manual (2002), Aggravated Felonies (2003).

Joseph Justin Rollin worked as an Attorney Advisor for the Executive Office of Immigration Review for two years before joining the Law Offices of Norton Tooby. B.A., University of Washington, 1997. J.D., University of Washington School of Law, 2001. Author, with Ann Benson, of an analysis of the immigration consequences of every Washington State criminal offense; Humpty Dumpty Logic: Arguing Against the "Aggravated Misdemeanor" in Immigration Law, 6 Bender's Immigr. Bull. 443, 445 (May 15, 2001).
